Our coach is waiting until Monday (66 degrees forecast) before holding our first practice. Still believe many of the girls will go hit in our indoor hitting/pitching facility. Nice to have on bad weather days.

Hey Windthorst dad...is it better than G. Taylor's? If it is, he'll make his better!

Lol, Lynx I believe Glen Taylor has the best indoor facility in the area. Of course, it's 40 miles away vs the school is only 3 miles down the road.

Basketball girls have a realistic chance to advance as deep as regionals IMO. Only four softball starters are playing varsity basketball so we should still field a strong team in softball tournaments while our basketball girls continue their advance through the playoffs.

The key is that our two top pitchers and all-district catcher do not play varsity basketball.

Weimar scrimmages last year's 3A state champ, LaGrange, on 02-12 and will scrimmage a very good 3A team, Sealy, on 02-13.

Wow! Wildaggie, be sure to let us know how the scrimmage go. I saw one of our local teams (Burkburnett) and LaGrange both on TV in the 3A state championships last year and both impressed me. I see LaGrange is pre-season #1 in 4A poll this year. Good luck in both games!

I think defense let Burkburnett down as they had decent bats and a All-State pitcher. When you get to that level you have to execute in all phases of the game.

Weimar will be missing several key players because of basketball and LaGrange has very few softball players that play basketball so I don't expect a great scrimmage...still good to play against those type of teams.

Final basketball practice was today, for those softball players who play basketball on JV or whose Varsities are not qualified for the playoffs. That means some softball teams will have their first, full-strength practices on Wednesday. So ready for the season to start!

Weimar scrimmaged #1 ranked LaGrange (4A) last night and got whooped in every phase of the game. However, LaGrange is absolutely loaded. I believe they hit 5 HR's last night and just ripped the ball. With that being said, Weimar was missing some very key players and I think they will still be a good team a month from now.

No surprise LaGrange is already hitting on all cylinders. THey will be tough to beat and fully expect to see them competing for 4A state title this year.

I also agree Weimar will be a different looking team once you get all players back from basketball. Weimar always seems to field a tough team.

Windthorst lost in their first scrimmage last night to 3A Holliday who had most of their starters. We had five starters (other four playing basketball) who did the most damage at the plate. Our slappers got on base each time and stole three bases between them. Unfortunately, they were stranded at third base each time. Starting pitcher struggled allowing 4 runs. #2 pitcher was throwing heat and struck out 3 hitters in 2 innings and no runs. Innings 5-7 we played mostly by JV players. We scrimmage 3A Iowa Park tonight in Windthorst and hope to see better hitting from out girls. When we get our other four starters back, I believe we will be tough to beat but we are taking our lumps early. Good news it our JV are getting valuable experience.

Windthorst scrimmaged 3A Iowa Park at home Friday. Windthorst pitching looked good and held down the Iowa Park bats for the most part. Did have some fielding errors on manageable hits but we can work on that. Hitting still only productive at top of the lineup. Four starters playing basketball will definitely help out when they return. Base running was better but still a work in progress for the younger players. Right now, pitching and top of batting lineup is carrying the Trojanettes. Plenty of room for improvement of course.

Weimar opens the season with a 6 to 3 loss to a good 3A team that reached the regional semis last year and had like 8 starters back including their pitcher. Weimar still missing 3 basketball players of which 2 are very good softball players. All in all, it wasn't too bad.

Windthorst finished in 3rd place in the Jacksboro tournament this past weekend. District mate Archer City defeated Mineral Wells 5-4 to win the tournament.

Finished 3-0 in pool by defeating 3A teams:
Defeated Breckenridge 9-2 Cy Schroeder winning pitcher
Defeated Jacksboro 11-0 Brooklyn King winning pitcher
Defeated Bridgeport 5-0 Brooklyn King winning pitcher

Bracket play:
Lost to (3A) Mineral Wells 1-9 Cy Schroeder losing pitcher
Defeated (3A) Bridgeport 9-2 Brooklyn King winning pitcher

Both Windthorst slappers were able to get on base and cause havoc with steals and the top half of the batting order hit well. Fairly satisfied with this first tournament as only 5 varsity starters were available and we started two freshman who stepped up and made their case to be placed on varsity.

Looks like this weekend's tournament in Burkburnett will be cancelled due to bad weather.

How bout those Ladycats! Beat Mineral Wells in pool play 1-0 and again in finals 5-4 after spotting Mineral Wells a 4-0 lead(FYI Mineral Wells is a quality 4A ball club), to win the Tourney. Beat Bridgeport 16-0 to get to finals. Don't know what the future holds but these girls are having fun, lots of excitement, and have talent and it's going to be fun. Biggest difference between this yr and last so far besides the enthusiasm is 1-9 and the bench will put it in play they're all hitting. Lots of options and depth this yr. See what happens

AC looking good early and I was especially happy to hear that Ashtyn Wuthrich has come back from her ACL injury. I heard she pitched both games vs Mineral Wells so kudos to her. Should be a barn burner (as usual) when Windthorst gets all their starters back from basketball and these two teams meet up in district play. Always competitive! Congrats to the LadyCats!

Yes sir and don't forget those pesky Pirates, they're going to be good as well. Going to be a barn burner. Seymour won't be bad just no pitching. No matter what happens in district any of the following are legit contenders--AC, Windthorst and P-Town to get to State Tourney. How would you like to win your district and your reward is playing one of those as a 3rd place team in district..OUCH! But that's way out there lots of ball to play and some experience to be gained.

Yes Ashtyn threw it well and Elliot Hilbers is dang good as well.

Pirates KK King will be a decent pitcher but hittable. I also believe Petrolia lost too many bats to win district but I agree they will be pesky.

The old saying in softball is it all starts in the circle and that my friend is why I see Windthorst and Archer City as the top two in district.

Cy Schroeder did well at Jacksboro before falling ill and our #2 Brooklyn King went 3-0 in the tournament. I expect the bats and defense will decide the AC/Windy games this season.

Despite the cold, ice/snow we finally were able to play some softball on Friday and Saturday. Windthorst Trojanettes finished in second place to (4A) Vernon in a thrilling 8-inning double-ITB championship game that went back and forth. Bats looked much better but our coach needs to use both pitchers and not try to ride just one "horse". A fresh arm may have made a difference. Proud of the girls and they travel to Snyder, Tx. this Friday and Saturday for their final tournament before district starts.

Cotton is correct. Abby Donnell had and a great 4-year career at WF Rider High School setting most of the hitting records as well as notching some of the pitching records. At A&M I have seen her pitching and hitting (DP) but don't believe I have seen her in a field position yet. She was a pretty decent CF due to her speed.

Vernon has two pretty decent pitchers. First one we saw was Sam B. (don't know how to spell her last name) and she threw decent fast ball and change-up combinations with a bit of a rise ball but no real hard breaking stuff. The second pitcher (I think is their ace) is Jaida Guzman and she throws harder (53-55) with a decent off-speed pitch. Likes to throw rise balls but was missing high versus us. We still chased a lot of pitches. Vernon bats were good too so I suspect they will contend for their district title.

Ladycats played a 3 game set at Haskell this past weekend going 2-1. Lost to rider in 7th w a one run lead going in left too many runners stranded but hitting the ball well, had some base running errors and fielding that allowed Rider to hang around. Lots of kids got in on the action as coach is rotating well, seeing what she's got in non district. Much different than last year. FYI Haskell is one deep field.

Beat Holliday 2-1(against their ace) and always good to beta county rivals even in tiddły winks.

Beat Haskell 7-0

Ladycats open district w a 3 inning 17-0 win over Quanah. Play Vernon Northside next.

2A-Windthorst Trojanettes traveled to Snyder this past weekend to play against some very good West Texas teams. The highlight of the weekend was leading #12 3A Colorado City 1-0 before a home run won it for the wolves 4-2. Windthorst beat Brownfield 11-7 and Kermit 9-3. Trojanettes lost a heart breaker to Midland Christian 8-7 the next morning before coming back to pound Post 14-1.

Trojanettes begin district play tomorrow at Vernon Northside. Go Trojanettes!!

Weimar finished 5th out of a 28 team tourney in San Marcos over the past weekend. This tourney is always comprised of 2A thru 6A teams. They completed play with 5 wins and 2 losses. Then beat a good 4A TAPPS team Tuesday night. This team still has much room for improvement.

Big district game today! #5 Weimar travels to #1 ranked Shiner. Should be a good game. Weimar hit the ball really, really well against ranked Flatonia last Friday pounding out 18 hits and winning by a score of 17 to 8. If pitching is a little more consistent and limits the number of walks issued, I like the Weimar Ladycats.

Shiner beats Weimar 10 to 7 after 8 straight losses to the Ladycats over the last 2 years. Weimar will have to improve their pitching, not sure how, if they expect to make any kind of run at getting back to the state tournament. Weimar has the offense and defense to get there, just need the pitching. Shiner has a very good team with 2 quality pitchers.

Windthorst Trojanettes stay perfect with a 2-0 district record by defeating the Quanah Indians 17-0 (3 inning). All three Trojanette pitchers threw one inning each giving up only two hits and no runs. The Trojanettes play two big district match-ups by taking on last years Region champion Petrolia today, followed by a Friday game against Archer City.

Wildaggie - I would love to have see this game. Sounds like two tough competitors slugging it out. Yes, the performance in the circle typically ends up being the winning factor in tight games.

Windthorst Trojanettes stay perfect in district at 3-0 after defeating the Petrolia Lady Pirates 5-3 in district play last night. Windthorst led 5-1 after four innings before Petrolia plated two runs in the top of the fifth to close to 5-3. Petrolia had base runners on the path and a hard hit to left field was snagged by a running Jenna Glawe to secure the third out, stranding the base runners. Petrolia would threaten again in the top of the sixth but solid defense by CF Brooke Schreiber and LF Jenna Glawe kept Petrolia scoreles and the game concluded at 5-3.

Big Archer County match-up in Windthorst tomorrow when the Lady Cats visit the Trojanettes for there first meeting of the season. Archer City is also perfect in district play so far this season.

Big District 8-2A Softball match-up tonight between the Windthorst Trojanettes and the Archer City Lady Cats. Both bring undefeated districts records to the plate and this one promises to be a "barn-burner"!
