@Hull_TRN: There was a coin toss to decide number of games between Windy and Petrolia. Windy wanted 3, Petrolia 1. Heads call won it for Windthorst.

Shiner beats Harper 7-2, 11-0 to advance and play Weimar for Region IV title. Most people who know the game predicted this matchup. Congrats Windthorstdad on your squad getting the W vs Albany....take care of their slappers and put the ball in play vs Petrolia!

Ptown doesn't slap, they do bunt and move runners over religiously. Don't have big hitters just good ole small ball

I agree but weird little game. Definitely think w 3 game series benefits Windy, ptown ace is good and a 1 gamer wldve been interesting. Although she pitched 1 & 2 against AC. Ac scored only 2 runs but did have 16 hits. 8 hits per game and only managed run per game .

Petrolia over Windthorst in a close 3 game series
Bosqueville has too much playoff experience..beats Hubbard
Harleton must be good to beat Beckville...Harleton over Grapeland
Shiner over Weimar in a tough, close series

But whoever wins Region IV will win state title!

Some great games and good luck to all the teams involved...should be fun!

Windy over Ptown in 2, Windy too deep and pitching is just as good as ptown and much better hitting team. Games will be well contested but windy finds a way to pull them out.

Bosque: Cause that's what they do

Harleton: have to pick someone

Weimer vs Shiner: hmmm hang on it's a 50/50 split. Weimer Comanches win

Shiner did not hit the ball very well against Weimar pitching this year as they lost both district games to the Weimar Ladycats. Weimar's pitcher did not have one of her better performances in either game. Weimar gave up 14 walks to Shiner in their first district game and still managed to win. Weimar is so good defensively up the middle (C, SS, CF) that I have to give the nod to the Ladycats.

When both teams are talented and perhaps equal, then I would have to go with the team with experience, which in this case is Weimar, who won it all last year. Then there's also the old adage that says they are the champs until you knock them off and Weimar shows no signs of slowing down.

Update to broadcast. KBUK 104.9 has change their mind and plans to broadcast the Flatonia vs Kenedy baseball game on Friday. They plan to broadcast the Weimar vs Shiner softball game on Friday on their AM 1570 station that is not on the internet.

Most of the news sites, even local media seem to be leaning towards Petrolia winning this series. Where's the love for Windthorst? :-\

I'm still choosing my Trojanettes as I believe they have a fire in their bellies and have more depth than the Lady Pirates. Go Trojanettes!

A key maybe who scores or gets on top first, P-town has yet to be behind in last 2 series. Easier to pitch w/a lead than pitch to keep you in a game. Come down to errors and timely hits, which I give to Windy, but should be a dandy, I stand by original Windy in 2, but well contested. That and Windy is so aggressive w runners on the base paths, ya'll make teams make plays.

Agreed Aces. We have led and/or scored first in most of our games. Post some runs early and try to pressure the Lady Pirates defense into an error or two sure would go a long way to building confidence. We play better with the lead.

Very good question. I believe select (travel) ball definitely makes a difference come high school ball. Not sure about the other teams but Windthorst has 7 or 8 that place select travel ball. I know of two Petrolia players that play but there may be more.

Seven or eight is a bunch for a class 1A school. I am assuming the pitcher (or pitchers) is one of those.

Some play more games than others of course depending on their select team's schedule. And yes, the top three pitchers and the starting catcher all play select softball.

I was curious how many Shiner and Weimar may have playing select ball. If half or your starters play select then it's a decent bet you'll do well during high school, especially if one is a pitcher.

I'm guessing Shiner girls play for San Antonio based select team whereas Weimar probably plays either Houston or Austin based select teams.

Our Windthorst girls play mainly for Dallas/Fort Worth based select teams.

For Weimar and Shiner...not as many play select as you might think...most of their players play multiple sports..and play them well. I think Shiner has 2 girls who actually played extensive select ball last year. Three freshmen start and they played on a little league all star team. The good thing about making long runs in the playoffs is that you get 6 more weeks of practice as a team to get better as well. So for Weimar and Shiner they have had 3 months of extra practice and games over just the past two seasons. Most will play select early on until high school and then some will taper off to take a break in the summer.

Good point, my kid and others being freshman, this might happen at Windthorst as well. They do plan to play together in a Summer high school league for six weeks so that should help some.

Today is GAME DAY!! Been waiting since she was seven years old for the chance to earn a trip to state and now it's finally upon us. Hope the girls ignore the butterflys and play the game they love and let the results take care of themselves. Good luck to everyone and especially to my Windthorst Trojanettes.

Eight teams left and unfortunately it's the end of the season for four very good teams. I can only speak with some knowledge about the possible outcome of the region IV series (Shiner vs. Weimar). It's no secret that Weimar has beat Shiner 6 straight games dating back to last year. One would think the law of averages could come into play here, but I don't think so. I really feel like Weimar wins this series again this year. The Weimar girls know Shiner has improved and know that it will be a hard fought series, but the Weimar girls are ready to go and full of confidence!

Two very good teams! If we were not playing, I'd be tempted to drive to watch this match-up. Regardless of the outcome, Region IV winner will be tough to beat at state.

Game 1 Bosqueville 10 Hubbard 4

@Doghouse_Sports: 1A Softball:
Harelton 6, Grapeland 0 Harleton with the combined no-hitter.One game playoff.
