Wildaggie - Congrats on your teams start! I'm very surprised to hear Flatonia has lost 3 district games. I believe they lost an All-State player but thought they would still be strong. I agree with your picks. Injuries can affect a team's chemistry and I hope all heal quickly. Sorry to hear about your 1B ACL injury. I hope she is not a Senior and will have another chance next season.

Flatonia looks a little shaky on the infield and I believe Weimar pitcher no-hit them last night. The Weimar 1st baseman is just a sophomore so she has a couple of more years.

District play continues with the Windthorst Trojanettes playing at Perrin-Whitt Friday and the JV girls playing Thur-Sat in the Seymour tournament. Go Trojanettes!

Wasn't it Flatonia or Weimar who graduated their middle infielders and Freshman were expected to fill those spots?

Weimar did but they have a freshman starting at SS who is very good defensively. She has played travel ball for probably 5 years so no drop off at all. What we miss from the graduated seniors is their offense, especially the 2nd baseman. We have a non-district game tonight against a 5A opponent. It should be interesting.

I fell that travel ball gives the kids a great outlet to refine their skills and receive additional coaching. Also, IMO, it appears to give the kids a "leg up" on competition for starting positions on high school teams (local politics aside of course). Great to hear Weimar is solid up the middle and the offense will come. I love it when a small school takes down a large school in any sport. Good luck today!

Windthorst Trojanette JV defeated Bridgeport JV 8-4 and followed it up with a 12-5 victory over Holliday JV in the Seymour JV softball tournament yesterday.

Today the Varsity Trojanettes take on Perrin-Whitt who already have a district win over Olney. Go Trojanettes!

I agree Windthorstdad...travel ball is good but they need to learn the game more. Many kids do not get taught the fundamental key points of the game...how to bunt, run bases, what the infield fly rule is, etc. The playing is great as it is in all sports..working on skills outside of the school teams.

Windthorst Trojanettes softball continues to win big! The varsity traveled to Perrin-Whitt Friday where they won 15-0. The JV won the Seymour JV tournament this weekend by going 4-0 defeating (3A)Bridgeport 8-4, (2A)Holliday 12-5, (1A)Seymour 15-1 and (1A)Olney 11-0

The varsity is currently ranked #4 and the JV is undefeated this season. Keep up the good work Trojanettes.

Agreed lynx! That is what I liked about travel ball. Players may not have good coaching or even parents that understand how to teach fundamentals whereas travel ball typically has a minimum of four experienced coaches on staff that insure every player practices fundamentals and learns the "game" of softball. I've told my kids, even the Pros practice off a tee! You can not put enough emphasis on practicing fundamentals no matter what sport or level of play.

Windthorst Trojanettes have not allowed a run in district play and try to keep that streak alive when they host Olney today and Bryson on Friday. Good luck ladies!

Windthorst remains undefeated in district by defeating Olney 18-4 (I believe this was the score). Made a few errors but not enough to where the coach began subbing in mass by second inning. JV won 15-0. Friday game is vs Bryson and then a big showdown next Tuesday vs Archer City.

Ganado has a solid team but Weimar just executes a little better. Weimar probably out hit Ganado but not by much. Weimar freshman SS hit a homerun, the CF had several hits and stole 3 bases, and the catcher had a couple of hits plus played well behind the plate, plus the Weimar pitcher did a nice job. Final score was 6 to 0.

Aces - how are the Archer City Ladycats doing? Seen very little in the newspapers but believe they are undefeated in district. Should be a good game tomorrow if the weather cooperates.

Doing well haven't lost since Bowie tourney; however our district w/exception of ya'll and us is so weak hard to tell, good news a lot of freshman getting lots of playing time. My daughter had a in the parker against Graford.

We will for sure find out where we are at against ya'll, just hope we battle well.

Great news about your daughter. Didn't know she was in high school already; where do the years go to? ;) Like you said, our district is weak so we're looking forward to the challenge. Both teams have pitching, bats and base running. Might come down to who makes the fewest errors. See you in Archer City tomorrow.

Yeah she's doing great, doesn't get much PT right now, but didn't expect her to as a freshman on varsity, however we had a JV but it fell through. We had 20 girls out, then couple quit and there ya go. so my daughter got moved up which is a compliment in itself cause some got left behind. Kind of a bummer not to get some JV games, and get some good PT but life in 1A.

Ya'll have the experience, little worried about us defensively. We are green and act accordingly sometimes...LOL

That's a shame. Was really hoping Archer City would have fielded a JV if no other reason than to give us another opponent. We had 36 girls come out and one quit. Still have a full bench and if we had one more pitcher/catcher we could have fielded a second JV this year. Crazy at 1A. Our JV is undefeated including playing several 3A and 4A JVs and a couple of 1A and 2A varsity teams. I believe our varsity has only lost to 3A schools and is undefeated in district play. Strengths are hitting and pitching depth. Looking forward to a great game with Archer City.

To have 36 girls come out for softball at the 1A level is crazy. Weimar does not have enough kids out this year to field a JV and it really hurts the kids who are close to starting at the varsity level. Practice is good but it doesn't take the place of a live game.

It is crazy and probably unheard of for 1A. Last year had 33 and thought the numbers would go down since there's just not enough playing time to go around, especially when you have a competitive program. But no, we end up with 36 this year and the coach ended up ordering new uniforms. More girls than uniforms I guess. We are fortunate in that we have four very good pitchers and two good catchers plus a 5th pitcher who's improving each day. The bats are very good; our JV hit 5 home runs in the Wichita Falls Sunrise tournament earlier this year and none of those girls start on varsity (yet).

Our problem is we have not played very good competition this year, so we have not seen very good pitching (most has been sub-50 mph). Hope that doesn't hurt us in the playoffs.

Was a great game, both shld be commended. Windy scores 6 of their runs w 2 outs was just a good contest. Matter o fact I don't believe there was one walk. Just hits, plays and strike outs. Windy was very aggressive on base path. And AC battled to the end.

Indeed this game lived up to expectations. Both teams played hard and neither backed down. Windthorst had 14 hits, Archer City had 10 hits and both combined for a total of 14 runs. This was a fun game to watch. If there were any walks I do not remember them. I mentioned in an earlier post this game may come down to errors; Windthorst did not have any while Archer City had three. Might have been the difference maker in this tight game. Truly looking forward to the final district game of the season, in Windthorst, when these two teams meet again. Great job by both teams.

We had an exciting game in Windthorst for a while as the Perrin-Whitt Lady Pirates took a 5-2 lead over the Trojanettes after 2.5 innings. The Trojanettes bats then got hot in a hurry as the posted 9 runs in the bottom of the third and 8 runs in the fourth inning to take a 19-6 victory to remain undefeated in district.

I haven't been on here in a while but we are down to our last district game against Bremond tuesday. We went 1-3 the first half of district and are 2-1 in the second half so far. My daughter did hit her first home run against Leon last week. It was her first home run ever including little league so that was cool. If we beat Bremond then we have a playoff game to make the playoffs. So we still have a chance.

Windthorst JV completed an undefeated season Friday vs Olney. Closest game they had all year was a 10-2 victory over 3A Iowa Park. Congrats!

Windthorst varsity travels to Bryson tomorrow and then the season finale when they host the Archer City Ladycats, which should determine the district title. Windthorst won the first meeting in a very competitive game 8-6 and I expect this meeting to be another exciting game.

Once the playoff brackets are posted, we can setup the schedule and make our picks. Always a guessing game, especially with injuries, but also a lot of fun.

BTW, I still think Weimar survives a bunch of very good teams to win Region 4. Regions 2 and 3 are still a toss up to me. I've already made my pick for Region 1 but I believe it may see some upsets along the way with a good team going home early due to errors.

Well we actually lost to Bremond on Tuesday 18-17 in the bottom of the seventh inning. Luckily Leon beat North Zulch though so we ended up tied for third with North Zulch. We played them Thursday at Bryan Rudder and beat them 4-1 so we made the playoffs as the third place team. Just happy we made the playoffs with this being my daughter's last year. If we stay away from errors in the field we can hang with some good teams so we will see.

Game is 6 Tuesday in Holliday. We play and hit like that again we going to be okay in the playoffs. Had our bats and bottom part line up had great at bats working deep cnts. 1 I counted was 12 pitches and worked the walk after being down in count 1-2. That's what we need to beat a quality team.

Game was tied up going into 4 th when Ac got it rolling w cpl errors from windy. Got up 4-0, then added one in top of 5th. Game IMO was decided in bottom of 5th and top of 6th when windy had 1 out and bases loaded and Ac held them to just 1 run. Then Ac bats put up 3 in top of 6th to put it away.

I expect another intense game on Tuesday both teams are top notch and ARCHER COUNTY SOFTBALL IS STOUT.

No argument there, Archer City was the better team Saturday. Both games have been won by the team that made no errors. Fully agree with hour statement above and kind of neat we stay in Archer County (@Holliday) for game #3!

Winner gets the first round bye in the playoffs.

I hope the game never gets played and there has to be a coin flip due to rain all week! Granted that wouldn't be good for the hay in the fields waiting to be baled.

We could accept the rain and go play on Bowie's artificial turf softball field. :ympray:
