State Tournament

Postby MrBob » Mon Jun 06, 2016 7:26 am

Beckville vs. Stamford- Wednesday, June 8 at 9:00

Bosquevile vs. Flatonia- Wednesday, June 8 at 12:00

Winners play for the State Championship on Thursday, June 9 at 9:00.

All games are at Dell Diamond.
It's a pretty good day when you're on your way and you like where you're going. And you've got what you want and you want what you've got and you're wise enough to know it.

Sure would look like Flatonia will have their hands full, but those guys just find a way to win.

They have to find a way to win the 1st game!! Last two series they have lost the first game and come back to win the next two. No more game 2 or 3!!

Being that we played them 5 times this year, I'm just curious as to what pitcher he will throw in the Semifinal Game.

Can anyone stop the juggernaut which is Bosqueville? They seem to be on a mission.

My statement was incorrect as they haven't lost the last two series 1st game, but they have lost the first game is three of their playoff series.

How well can you keep your emotions in check? Can your pitchers keep it in the strike zone and not have early game wildness?

Flores has been their Game 1 starter in the playoffs - do you change now? Their offense is what seems to let them down in the first game other than Evadale series when Flores couldn't get out of the first inning, but bounced back by throwing a gem in a game 2. Only threw 42 pitches in game 1 and came back tossing 98 in game 2. Flatonia's coach appears to not allow his kids to throw over 120 as I noticed on GC he made a changes in other games for a single out when Flores was nearing 120. Leading 6-0 in he brought Mikulik in for the final two out so Flores wouldn't go over a 100

Bosqueville (31-1)..only loss was to 4A Madisonville 6-7

Going by their record this year, Bosqueville is unstoppable vs. other 2A schools. However, strange things can happen in title games so they better keep it together for one more series. I don't know much about Flatonia but they wouldn't be playing yet if they weren't any good. Hope it's a good series and best of luck to both teams.

Unstoppable??? Their schedule wasn't exactly the toughest either. We put up a decent fight never could come up with the big hit though to break it open!! All the credit to Bosqueville though they got the hits when they needed them and made the plays when they needed them.

OK, I admit unstoppable may have been a little over the top. I was using that term in response to an earlier post where it was used. But then again, show me a 2A school that's "stopped" them.

I get tired of hearing people pointing to schedules as reasons for a team being successful or not. The kids have no say in it. They play the schedule they're given and the outcome is what it is. 31-1 record (with only loss being a school two classes above you) for reg season and playoffs is impressive no matter what. I would say that for any school.
Not a big stick ball fan and haven't followed their progress until recently so I'm not really in a position to comment on their regular season strength of schedule, but surely they haven't faced lollipop teams throughout the playoffs. What I'm hearing from what I consider reliable sources is that they have definetly been tested in the playoffs, but not to the breaking point. From what I've seen, BV better take Flatonia seriously. They could very well be the team that "stops" us or finds that breaking point. BV has to have their heads in it 100%. We'll know later today.

Anyhoo, hope it's a good game. Both teams deserve to be in the finals and should be proud of their accomplishments this season. Good luck to both.

You are down 4-0 and have 5 outs to play with you can't be sacrificing in that spot. Then again maybe he was attempting to bunt for a base hit???

OK please pardon my ignorance, but I'm not a normal follower of HS stickball.

I was thinking there were 2 finals (Reg 1&3 and Reg 2&4) and that was it; seemed kinda wierd but that's how it looks to be set up on the UIL website (bracket pages). Reading these posts it looks like the winner of 1&3 faces the winner of 2&4, is that correct? If it is, then when are the true "State Finals" being played or is that day/time TBD?

Semi's are today in Round Rock. Region 1 played Region 3 early today(Beckville over Stamford) and Region 2 is playing Region 4 as we speak(Bosqueville versus Flatonia). Finals are tomorrow in Round Rock and will be Beckville versus winner of Bosqueville/Flatonia.

They seed the two best winning percentages on opposite sides of the bracket then there is a draw for pairings. Only in football do they pair Regions for the semi-finals.
