These are totally based on last year's finish!! I was very impressed with Archer City last night. We should be flipped with them in the rankings.

Not sure where we will be in the grand scheme of things playing wise. We also have other issues as well as to where we will be playing our home volleyball games. We had two major storms and actually it was more than that as when they hit it was like it was night after night and we got tons of rain after all the damage. The two major storms did a lot of damage at the school, from up rooting trees, blowing out windows, and tearing off roofs.

One of which was the roof to the main gymnasium. There was so much damage that with all the water that came in, it also damaged and destroyed the main wooden gym floor. They fought it night after night with new water that kept coming in but the floor buckled and was beyond repair. So it must be replaced, so our Admin has be wrestling with all the insurance claims and contractors to get everything fixed by school start.

One of the items that has fell behind is the replacement of the entire basketball floor in the main gymnasium, which is where we play our volleyball home games, so we are still not sure about our home schedule as of yet.

More on Hawley's Damages... We lost the entire visitors bleachers which we are told that will be somewhere around $65K to replace. They have been ordered, not sure when they will be in, but that is moot as the floor must be down first. Oh and by the way, the roof comes before that... They had to tear out the entire wooden floor that was buckled and also had to tear out the old tartan floor under that to get back to the concrete floor. The gym roof is still not repaired and even though it it tarped it leaks every time we get rain. So our Volleyball girls do not have a single home game this year as we must play all games at our opponents facility.

We also lost the roof to the band hall and that roof was just pealed off like it was nothing at all, kind of like our gym roof. It also is tarped up but leaks every time it rains. We also lost part of the roof on our new AG shop as well. The sad thing about this is they had built all new cabinets for the new science lab and all of them were damaged beyond repair and will have to be totally rebuilt.

The sad part about all of this is our insurance company is refusing to pay as required. They love their paid on time premiums, but do not want to pay out when it is due. We have been fighting them for months and now have lawyers involved. So to say it is sad and ugly at Hawley ISD is an understatement. We have all these issues and we are certainly not ready for school to start in these areas.

I will keep you updated...

We started school this week, and still have four buildings that are leaking and need roofs. It sure has not be a great start for Hawley America...

BIG COUNTRY TOP 10

5. Samantha Newton, outside hitter/setter, Jr., Hawley — Had a big week with a combined 33 kills, 27 assists, 10 digs, nine aces and eight blocks in volleyball wins over Ranger (25-10, 25-7, 25-15) and Rotan (25-9, 25-6, 25-11) and a loss to Clyde (25-23, 22-25, 25-13, 15-25, 15-9).
"Sam is a great all around athlete because of the work she puts into becoming one," coach Amy Eckoff said. "She has put in a huge amount of time preparing for basketball, softball and volleyball.
"Sam has an amazing drive to be the best she can in all things and she is not afraid of things that challenge her."
And yes, this is the same Samantha Newton who took all-Big Country honors in basketball as the Class 2A player of the year last season.

BIG COUNTRY SPORTS
Big Country Player of the Week:

BIG COUNTRY TOP 10

6. Samantha Newton, outside hitter, Jr., Hawley — Produced big numbers on the front and back lines yet again in victories over Snyder (25-22, 22-25, 25-22, 26-28, 18-16) and Benjamin (25-15, 25-14, 25-18).
Aside from charting a combined 29 kills, Newton had 26 assists, 19 digs, five blocks and four aces.
Already an all-Big Country basketball player, Newton is rapidly gaining the reputation as one the area's top volleyball standouts as well.
So now the question becomes, is there anything she isn't good at?
