Archer City finally got over the hump with an awesome performance in eliminating Windthorst. AC is a very scrappy team, they hustle and are very good defensively. They have hitters but lack power.

Lindsay was in the final four last year. They are a very sound team defensively and have hitters with power. Do not rule Lindsay out.

Schulenberg is a bit of a wildcard this year but what I have heard is they play every point very hard.

Iola is my pick to win it all. Defensively they hustle, they play very good team ball (communications) and the Gooch girl has real power and most likely walks away with the MVP award.

Good luck to all.

They had all the state teams rosters in the Bryan newspaper today. All the teams have at least 14 girls on their roster. I wonder do they bring their jv girls up during playoffs or does everybody usually have that many. We only run nine players on varsity and our coach only brings maybe one or two up for playoffs. We have done really good over the years especially if e everybody has that many girls playing.

Probably depends on what the varsity strengths are. We brought up a setter and hitter but some teams also bring up either a defensive specialist or a very good server. Some bring none.

I know from our experience when we brought younger teams in we ended up losing in the semis but made it to the chamionship with experience but we have never been able to win it all. The state tournament is definitely a whole different animal especially if its the girls first time there. Just an observation but dont mean a newcomer cant win it just a little more difficult I think. No predictions on my end I'm just pulling for the Lady Bulldogs to win it!

An interesting fact I found out today. Every time we have been in the state tournament we have lost to the eventual champion each time. Of course about have the time we lost in the finals but when we lost the semifinal match that team went onto win it all. I really hope we could pull it off this year. Coach Miss Mcdougald has been our coach for all our state appearances and it would be nice to bring one home for her! My oldest daughter played for her and graduated last year. Miss is a class act and a great coach!

Funny reading the tweets from this game:

Iola tormented Schulenburg in first game with hard serves & soft kill shots. I call them dink shots. Shorthorns probably have another name.

Iola, still serving effectively leads harder hitting Schulenburg.

-------

My thoughts: doesn't matter how it goes down as long as the ball hits the floor - dink, power....

@larry_bowen: Schulenburg adjusted to Iola's soft stuff, and the Shorthorns have put up a huge block focused on Iola studette Amanda Gooch.

@larry_bowen: Iola, once down seven points, has fought back within 20-17 and Schulenburg calls TO in Game 4.

Great job Lady Bulldogs! Listened to the game and it was a few good games! Once again we fall a little short!

Great year for volleyball and very proud of our Archer County teams: Windthorst and Archer City. Looking at the lineups, Windthorst graduates one senior, Archer City graduates two, Iola graduates one, Lindsay graduates two and Schulenberg graduates five. The biggest loss her will be Lindsay's Fleitman who was a great all-around player. I do not believe the seniors for Archer City or Windthorst played much this year due to numbers or injuries. I am not sure how many seniors started for Schulenberg but looks like at least four of these teams return a bunch of talent. Looking forward to 2015.

Windthorst hires native Allison Schreiber Bussey as it's next volleyball coach. Windthorst Coach Stacy Wolf retired from coaching but will remain a full-time teacher. Bussey led Archer City to a region championship this season over Windthorst but now returns to her alma-mater to continue the Trojanettes successful run at state championships.
