Windthorst Volleyball

Postby WindthorstDad » Wed Aug 07, 2013 3:08 pm

The Trojanettes are working hard in the gym to make a run at State this year. We only lost one starter and the returning players look strong. I'm looking forward to the season and hoping we get past Regionals and make the trip to State! Good Luck Windthorst Trojanettes.

Region I - Water Valley, Wink, or Windthorst are the perennial favorites, but don't forget about Bronte - Wink lost 6 seniors off last years teams but is always a tough out in the playoffs. Windthorst has been knocked out by Wink the last 3 years in the Region semis.

Region II - Cayuga was the State Tournament representative last year but lost 4 seniors from their roster, other contenders Albany, Lindsay, Milano, and Hico.

Region III - Jewett Leon 2012 State Champion - return State Tournament MVP and 2 other All-Tournament selections - only had 2 seniors on the team last year - were a perennial powerhouse in 2A. 24 state tournament appearances - probably a state record for all classification. Iola has been strong the last couple of years as well

Region IV - Perennial Powerhouse Round-Top Carmine return 2 State All-Tournament selections and should be considered the favorite in region IV - District foe Burton lost to RTC three times last year including the region final.

My early favorite would be Jewett Leon (Region III), however, I believe with Wink losing so much to graduation that Windthorst will emerge from Region I with a close victory over Water Valley at regionals. I'm picking Lindsay as the sleeper to advance out of Region II and of course I fully expect to see Round-Top Carmine out of Regional IV.

Just my guesses :-)

Windthorstdad...good picks overall...Leon should be the clear cut favorite based on returners and past 2A dominance. I expect to see the Trojanettes back at state (finally) beating out Wink with RTC from regionIV, but should get competition from Harper (a sleeper with lots of returning talent), Weimar, Leakey, Shiner, Burton...all in the mix. Region 2 is a toss up with the 4 you had mentioned. Leon will cruise in Region 3. Lets see what unfolds in the next few weeks!

My daughter is a senior on the Iola volleyball team this year. We have lost three seniors but have all state Amanda Gooch returning who is a junior now. We only lost three matches until the loss to Leon in the region chamionship tournament last year. We also won the Centerville tournament last year which was the first time the girls had done that. I say that to say that Leon is the clear favorite over any team they play cause they return pretty much that whole team. Better bring your a game to beat them but who knows its a new year and somebody just might knock them off.

good point Iola fan...you guys have talent as well...so there you have it, that's how we get this thing started from the perspective of all regions and teams. What happens on the court is what counts....Good luck to all in all sports this year and it will be realignment year as well. Aloha!

I never rule out Iola; they play some very good volleyball. I hope we meet Iola in a tournament down the road, might be an early check to see where we are at that point. Did Amanda Gooch have an older sister? Seems like I've heard that last name a few years back.

Windthorst beat Iola in straight sets in 2007 for the state championship and then beat them in 2008 in 5 for the state championship. 2008 was the last time Windthorst advanced to state.

Man that 2008 chamionship was a great match! Heartbreaking for us cause that was a great team with a lot of seniors. Amanda Gooch has startes since she was a freshman making all state each year. She is a junior this year and we have cruised through our scrimmages so far against Navasota and Lexington. Start playing for real tomorrow!

In the Wichita Falls Times Record area volleyball preview, they mentioned we looked pretty good against WF Rider(4A), Iowa Park (3A), and Nocona (2A). All advanced to the playoffs in their respective alignments last year.

AC girls took on Bowie last night, didn't fair well, but love our young coaches. They make 'em work and are good and just going to get better w/more experience. Varsity we will have anywhere from 3-4 Freshman playing, w/a cpl starting, will have some growing pains against older experienced teams. On another note Bowie girls are athletic and look it, don't know how they faired last year, but if they're not winning I don't see why.

Bowie will be strong in VB and basketball this year; very talented bunch of ladies. AC is very fortunate to have Allison Bussey and Kasey Berend as coaches. Those two will bring AC back strong.

Windthorst did well last night. I fully expect WFHS to contend for 4A district this year; good players and hard to hit past the 6-foot plus Eakin sisters.

AC girls will be very competitive in all sports next few years, including track. Good coaches, and solid grp of athletes that are Freshman and sophomores, and quite a few of them(depth). We will be stout, in softball this year, and have a Freshman lefty to ad to depth, she can pitch. Blast to watch how she works the batters. Basketball we should be solid but some youth. The Lucido kid(soph) is an awesome athlete, shld have been at state in 100 meters last yr as a freshman but jumped the gun and was dq'd at regionals

I have not doubt Archer City girls will be strong the next few seasons. Elliot Hilbers will provide another option on the mound and yes, it broke my heart to see Lucido Dq'd at the regional meet. She would have won it easily in my opinion.

I see some good games (all sports) for the Windthorst/AC ladies in the upcoming seasons.

Windthorst should see three sophomore and three freshman (including two pitchers) either starting or getting maximum playing time in softball this year.

Being a VB board ...I'll chime in my softball opinion...Region 4 will take the gold again but a lot of good competition lurks in other regions. A good friend of mine gives hitting lessons to a bunch of WF area girls and brags on quite a few of the Windy/AC/Petrolia kids. I am a region 4 fan, so I am biased but realistic as well.

Hey at least the girls are getting talked about no matter what forum, they kinda fade to back ground this time of year. And being the proud Daddy of 2 young ladies it's okay no matter what forum. My only prayer is they don't marry someone like me..LOL but I will kill their boy if he's like dogfan1 or eagle1, some things a father can't abide by....LOL..

anyways ought to be fun to watch, maybe one of the groups will get a title in one of the sports, even not, it will be entertaining and competitive

Windthorst ladies earned 4th place in the Gold division after going undefeated in pool play. Very proud of their accomplishment with some good 3A and 4A teams in the division.

Yes we have a couple freshmen still feeling their way through being in varsity competition. They haven't played in seven matches in three days before. We play in the Centerville tournament this weekend which is always tough.

I understand. Class A schools, our included, often pull up good Freshman to varsity and they will contribute. Early tournaments are great experience. Good luck this year!

That's one thing I noticed when we played yall in the state tournament you guys seem to have a lot deeper bench than we did. Good luck this year maybe we could meet down the road. I really enjoyed the state tournament experiences at state against you guys. The crowd was full on both sides and into the match. One thing I love about 1a is the support for the girl sports which you don't usually see at the higher classifications.

Other than 4A, 5A schools we played, Henrietta and Archer City were our most exciting opponents to play this year to date. AC played hard to the very end. With our talented JV bunch moving up next year, including a 5'11 and two 5'10" girls, it will be a battle every time the Lady Cats and Trojanettes face each other.

5.10 beats the hell out of 6.1-6.2. All the runs we had, #16 was on the bench, then she'd come back in and ya'll would make your run it seemed. Thank God she's graduating along with #6. But 16 presents a problem for anyone. And you're right will be a battle for several years to come. Bussey and Berend have got this ship turned in right direction in Volleyball and Softball. Basketball we will be tough and should make a run for a state title in a yr or so. Last year had 4 freshman on Varsity started 2 and 2 came off bench for some minutes and no it's not lack of jr's/sr's, these group of soph's can flat out ball. Also have a good group of freshman for softball and vball and will help in basketball in a yr or 2 but not a lot of room on Varsity imo..w/depth of soph class.

And believe it or not if we get these young ladies to commit to track...we will be very competitive there as well. Lucido should have went to state in 100 but jumped in pre-lims, and Rice can fly(not quite as fast as Lucido but not far behind). Plus the Wuthrich girl who is a jr.. Our 400 relay and 800 relay should be tough. The unfortunate part is we lost a would be freshman to a move. She was every bit as fast as Lucido but must "move on".

Sophomore Class athletes to watch

Lucido
Simms
Graves
Howard
Knobloch
(there's more that ad depth)

Freshman Class Athletes to watch

Rice
Lopez
Hilbers
Kellar
Herring
McLemore
McGregor
(there's more that ad depth

Lots of expectations on these 2 classes of ladies. We as parents have to stay out of the way and it will be what it will be.

Yes, both AC and Windthorst ladies are very talented at soph and freshman ranks. All sports will be exciting in the next several years. Volleyball is always tough and hard to call at times. Basketball, I give you the edge as your girls fly down the courts and of course the track.

Softball; Windthorst expects to go to state the next four years. Just too much talent with bats, fielding and most importantly, five good pitchers.

Nice to know both our group of ladies will be the ones to watch in Region I in all sports for years to come.
