Times and distances have really improved in our district, with the district meet April 12 in San Saba. In addition to SS, Junction, Harper, Center Point and Mason. I'll post results and area qualifiers of note when available after.

2017 Track and Field

We're deep enough in to begin getting an idea of the top athletes in events. So, how is it looking in your area? Who is standing out? In our area, Junction has a sprinter doing pretty well - 11.40 and 23.21 at Sonora Mason has 300 hurdlers running 41 & 42, a 110 hurdler under 16, a 3.35 4x400 re...

Re: Flag Football

This won't affect Texas high school football because we don't play Federation rules. We play NCAA rules. There is a difference. True, and there are already rules to protect against blindside blocks - saw them enforced a couple of times this year. The problem I see is so many rules that rely on an o...

Re: How many starters returning?

Yes, we played them last year also. We also heard what happened when you guys played them. We heard it was a blatant cheap shot. We used to play a team every year that was like that. They thought the way to beat us was to get physical with us. That's fine, but they could not out physical us, so they...

We had seen film on Perez before the injury - an exceptional back, for sure. Shoot, we had heck tackling his backup - super quick and hard to hit. Another good example of injuries to key players affecting the playoffs. We stayed very healthy that year, except losing the fullback. However, our backup...

Re: How many starters returning?

I agree with your assessment. Refugio has dominated the LOS the last two years - just too strong and athletic. That has actually helped motivate Mason kids to spend extra time in the weight room and doing agility drills, so lesson learned the hard way - if you are going to play 3 or 4 sports, still ...

Hard to say who returning starters are because the Punchers used a lot of lineups, but Mason returns both QBs, 3 of 4 RBs, all 3 TEs, 2 of 5 WRs, and 3 of 6 top OL. On D, 1 of 2 CBs, 2 of 2 safeties, 3 of 5 LBs, 3 of 4 DEs, and 3 of 4 DL. If I had to pick the most commonly used starters I'd say 6 on...

As strange as it sounds, special teams and field position played a big part in the outcome tonight.
